Dry Eye Curly Coat Syndrome

Episodic Falling and Dry Eye Curly Coat Syndrome are the two most relevant hereditary diseases in Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed.
Affected dog puppies suffer from keratoconjunctivitis sicca from eyelid opening, abnormal (rough/curly) coat and appear usually smaller than littermates. Footpads are hyperkeratinised from young adulthood including nail growth abnormalities and intermittent sloughing, pain and lameness.
Both diseases are inherited in an autosomal-recessive trait. Carriers are free of symptoms, but can spread the mutation in the breed. The now available genetic tests enable the identification of carriers, a crucial step in breeding managemant.
Please note: Combinated genetic testing for Dry Eye Curly Coat Syndrome and Episodic Falling is very attractively in terms of price!
